Jack began his study of art later than most. Thanks to an understanding wife and encouragement from unexpected places he began the adventure. It has taken him to Latin America, Europe and Asia. Ireland has been a special place: birthplace of his grandparents and home to some very forebearing cousins. Along the way he has met many wonderful people, artists and non-artists alike; all of whose friendship he counts as gold. Northeastern Connecticut is his home. Its deep forests, enduring farmlands and ever-changing weather are a challenge and a joy to paint. The past few years he has been involved with Conserving Tolland, a local group dedicated to preserving the open lands of his hometown. Every Friday, he meets with a group of friends to draw from the model; drawing, the human figure and friends – a good way to spend Friday mornings.
To Jack, life is a conversation….. art is a conversation. Whether the subject is a Connecticut hillside, a friend’s pottery or a model, who is invariably counted as a friend, the artist must listen carefully and then speak with oils, brush or charcoal.
